Debbie has been running since 1984.  She was both a high school and collegiate distance runner.  She competed in track and cross country for Weber State University where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Physics Teaching.  In 2003 she became certified as a Colgan Power Program Strength Trainer.  In 2005 Debbie became a USA Triathlon Certified Coach and a Certified Sports Nutrition Advisor (CSNA-Master).  Today, Debbie is still a competitive runner and has become a successful triathlete as well.

Athletic Accomplishments:

Big Sky conference outdoor track champion in 3000 meter.

Participated in the 1991 NCAA Div.1 Cross Country National Championship

Ranked #1 in the USA Triathlon rankings for the 35-39 age group in 2005

Multiple time age group All-American Triathlete

Multiple time age group World Championship qualifier at the Olympic and
Ironman 70.3 distances.

Debbie’s General Training Philosophy:

“Running is the purest sport there is.  It will always be my most favorite form of exercise as nothing else makes me feel as free and alive.”

“If I am going to make a mistake I choose to be slightly undertrained.  This keeps me injury free, refreshed, always improving and ready to race!”

A former military brat, Debbie moved to Ogden in 1988 to run at WSU.  She fell in love with the mountains and with her husband (Guy) and stayed in Ogden.  She is the mother of three boys and 2 girls and is “the not so silent ‘silent’ partner at Salt Lake Running Co.”

Lindsey Anderson – Utah Running Expert

Professional Athlete

Lindsey Anderson is best known for her athletic accomplishments.  Lindsey competed in Cross Country and Track at Weber State University where she earned All-American honors twice and set four school records.  After college, she qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics when she finished second overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.  In addition to being an Olympian, Lindsey has also qualified and competed for the U.S. in two World Championships: Osaka, Japan in 2007 and Berlin, Germany in 2009.

2nd in 3,000 meter steeplechase at U.S. Olympic Trials 2008

Lindsey attended high school at Morgan High and then went on to attend Weber State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Teaching.  She currently teaches math at Morgan High School and lives with her husband Mark in South Ogden, Utah.

Michael Spence – Utah Running Expert

Michael Spence | Elite Runner

Michael Spence is a post-collegiate distance runner and steeplechaser with more than ten years of experience at the top level of the sport. He has been volunteering as an assistant coach at Utah State University since the fall of 2009. Spence graduated with an economics degree from Princeton University in 2000, and he was a NCAA Cross Country All-American in 1999.

He moved to Utah in 2003 to continue training for his primary event, the steeplechase, under the instruction of now-retired Weber State Track & Field Coach, Chick Hislop. He competed in the steeplechase at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Trials, finishing 6th in 2008. In 2007, Spence was the silver medalist at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also captained the US National Team at the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, Kenya.

Most recently, Spence won the 2009 USATF 10k Trail Championships in North Carolina and was the silver medalist at the 2010 NACAC Cross Country Championships in Trinidad & Tobago. He is currently training for his first major marathon, planned for the fall of 2010.
