Joel Hatch is the Director of Human Performance for BASICS Sports Medicine in Ogden, UT where he works with athletes of all abilities and ages.  He is well-known for his ability to motivate athletes to reach new levels of success through his intense workouts and his understanding of human performance.  He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree from the University of Utah in Exercise Physiology. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance from Weber State University where he graduated as the Outstanding Human Performance Graduate for the year 2005.  Joel’s extensive background in sports performance has helped him become a respected resource in his field.

Corbin currently teaches English at Davis High School (Kaysville, UT) and has coached Track and Cross Country there for the past 7 years.  He has a Bachelors Degree in English Teaching from Weber State and a Masters Degree in Health, P.E. and Recreation from Utah State University.  He is also a USATF Level 1 certified Coach.

Corbin Talley grew up in Riverton, UT where he attended Bingham High School.  After high school, he attended Weber State University where he competed in Track and Cross Country.  While at Weber State, Corbin met and married Stefanie who also ran on the WSU Track and Cross Country teams.  They currently reside in Layton, UT with their two kids – Ashlyn and Samantha.

Debbie has been running since 1984.  She was both a high school and collegiate distance runner.  She competed in track and cross country for Weber State University where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Physics Teaching.  In 2003 she became certified as a Colgan Power Program Strength Trainer.  In 2005 Debbie became a USA Triathlon Certified Coach and a Certified Sports Nutrition Advisor (CSNA-Master).  Today, Debbie is still a competitive runner and has become a successful triathlete as well.

A former military brat, Debbie moved to Ogden in 1988 to run at WSU.  She fell in love with the mountains and with her husband (Guy) and stayed in Ogden.  She is the mother of three boys and 2 girls and is “the not so silent ‘silent’ partner at Salt Lake Running Co.”

Lindsey Anderson – Utah Running Expert

Lindsey Anderson is best known for her athletic accomplishments.  Lindsey competed in Cross Country and Track at Weber State University where she earned All-American honors twice and set four school records.  After college, she qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics when she finished second overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.  In addition to being an Olympian, Lindsey has also qualified and competed for the U.S. in two World Championships: Osaka, Japan in 2007 and Berlin, Germany in 2009.

Jeffrey J. Rocco, MD – Utah Running Expert

Jeffrey J. Rocco, MD

Dr. Rocco is an orthopedic surgeon specializing Foot and Ankle Reconstruction, and Lower Extremity Trauma.

Dr. Rocco has been practicing in Ogden, Utah since 2006.  He is originally from Akron, Ohio.  Dr. Rocco received his Bachelor of Arts degree with University Honors from Miami University, in Oxford, OH.  In 1994, he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.  Dr. Rocco completed one and a half years of General Surgery residency at the Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine before starting a Residency in Orthopedic Surgery.  In 2002 he completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, and at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York City.  Dr. Rocco then completed his final year of training with Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery.  This year was spent in Fellowship with Arthur Manoli, II, MD at the Michigan International Foot and Ankle Center, located in Pontiac, Michigan.

Dr. Rocco then returned to Ohio to start his practice in 2003 with the Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence, Columbus, Ohio.  Dr. Rocco moved to Ogden, Utah in January, 2006 to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle in the Wasatch Mountains.  Downhill skiing, trail running, road and mountain biking, and Triathlons are just some the activities he pursues in the mountains around Ogden.  Taking a special interest in Endurance Sports Nutrition, he is on the research review board for First Endurance, a sports nutrition company in Salt Lake City, Utah.  His (along with many others’) nutrition articles and contributions can be viewed at http://blog.firstendurance.com/.

Michael Spence – Utah Running Expert

Michael Spence | Elite Runner

Michael Spence is a post-collegiate distance runner and steeplechaser with more than ten years of experience at the top level of the sport. He has been volunteering as an assistant coach at Utah State University since the fall of 2009. Spence graduated with an economics degree from Princeton University in 2000, and he was a NCAA Cross Country All-American in 1999.

He moved to Utah in 2003 to continue training for his primary event, the steeplechase, under the instruction of now-retired Weber State Track & Field Coach, Chick Hislop. He competed in the steeplechase at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Trials, finishing 6th in 2008. In 2007, Spence was the silver medalist at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also captained the US National Team at the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, Kenya.

Most recently, Spence won the 2009 USATF 10k Trail Championships in North Carolina and was the silver medalist at the 2010 NACAC Cross Country Championships in Trinidad & Tobago. He is currently training for his first major marathon, planned for the fall of 2010.
